Sabina Alam, PhD -\u00a0Editor of\u00a0BMC Medicine<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n Sabina Alam is the Editor of BMC Medicine<\/em>. After completing a PhD in Neuroimmunolgy from the University of Bath in 2004, and then a postdoctoral position in Neuroscience at the School of Pharmacy, Dr Alam joined BioMed Central as an Assistant Editor on the BMC Series in 2008. There she facilitated the peer review of manuscripts, and managed the Editorial Boards on a range of journals, primarily BMC Neuroscience<\/em>, BMC Neurology<\/em> and BMC Psychiatry<\/em>. She was promoted to Senior Executive Editor in 2009 where in addition to management of the journals, she also trained and managed a group of junior editors on the BMC Series. In 2011, Dr Alam joined BMC Medicine<\/em> as Editor, where she leads a team of editors in the strategic development of the journal, and determines the high level of clinical importance of content published in the journal. This is a key requirement for BMC Medicine<\/em> as it is the flagship medical journal of the BMC medical series. She also oversees the peer review process of all submissions to the journal, makes final decisions on all manuscripts, and is responsible for the quality of service to authors.<\/p>\n Caroline Black<\/p><\/div><\/p>\n Caroline Black \u2013 Editorial Director<\/strong><\/p>\n Caroline Black\u00a0is Editorial Director at BioMed Central with responsibility for our journal portfolios, including the BMC<\/em> Series of community-focused, inclusive open access journals, and the research integrity group. Nick joined NPG in 2001 and has variously worked as an editor on Nature Reviews Genetics,<\/em> Executive Editor of a suite of genetics journals, and leader of NPG\u2019s Asia-Pacific partner publishing program. As the Managing Editor of Nature<\/em>, Nick led a major digital and print relaunch. Nick took on his present role in September 2012. He received his M.D. degree in Peking Union Medical College.\u00a0He is dedicated to promoting the professional education program, as the director of BASIC (Basic assessment and support in intensive care) program in China mainland. He is also well recognized as the chair of scientific committee of many national and international conferences held in China, which help to improve academic exchange between China and international communities. He acts as the President of Asia Pacific Association of Critical Care Medicine (APACCM) from 2014, and was the President of Chinese Society of Critical Care Medicine (CSCCM) from 2011 to 2015.\u00a0His areas of interests are nosocomial infection and sepsis. He received a Master\u2019s degree in Economics and Business Administration from the University of Amsterdam and continued his academic career as Head of the Research Institute of the Economics faculty at the Free University of Amsterdam. Derk then moved on to a number of high-profile positions with Elsevier, including CEO of Misset, CEO of Elsevier Science and a member of the Executive Board of Reed Elsevier plc. He is the Director of GI Cancer Research, Department of Medicine, and Vice Chair for Research, Department of Surgery, at The University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center. He is a leading expert on pancreatic cancer. His research mainly focus on studying pancreatic cancer (PC) pathogenesis and developing new therapies. Dr. Li\u2019s group is the first to identify a key zinc transporter ZIP4, which is aberrantly expressed in PC, and promotes cancer growth, cachexia, and metastasis. He has published more than 130 papers in the above mentioned research area. He has 3 active NIH R01 grants, and multiple private foundation grants. Dr. Li is a member of many NIH study sections, and he serve as Associate Editor, Editor-in-Chief, and editorial board member for many journals such as BMC Medicine and Clinical Cancer Research. \u00a0<\/p>\n Charlotte Liu<\/p><\/div><\/p>\n Charlotte Liu\u00a0-\u00a0President, Greater China, Springer Nature<\/strong><\/p>\n Ms. Charlotte Liu, Managing Director, Macmillan Science (Greater China) & Education (Asia) since 2011, assumed her current role in May 2015, following the strategic merger between Springer Science+Business Media and the majority of Macmillan Science and Education.<\/p>\n Ms. Liu had brought 15 years of global educational publishing experience and a business strategy background to her role at Macmillan. Born and raised in Shanghai, she has a B.A. in English Language & Literature from Fudan University in Shanghai, and an MBA degree from Dartmouth College in the United States. Previously she was the senior director of international business development at the global educational publisher and financial information provider McGraw-Hill, with which she spent a decade in New York City and Beijing. She also worked at the Boston Consulting Group earlier in her career, advising multinational companies on their China strategy.\u00a0<\/p>\n Elizabeth Moylan, PhD<\/p><\/div><\/p>\n Elizabeth Moylan, PhD\u00a0-\u00a0Senior Editor (Research Integrity)<\/strong><\/p>\n Elizabeth Moylan is the Senior Editor for Research Integrity at BioMed Central, working with a team of in-house Biology and Medical Editors who are responsible for ensuring the integrity of peer review, as well as research and publication ethics for all journals published by BioMed Central. Elizabeth has oversight of editorial policies and peer review processes and is particularly interested in new models of peer review.<\/p>\n Elizabeth has a PhD and post-doc from the University of Oxford, UK. In 2004, she moved into publishing as an in-house Editor handling peer review on the, then fledgling, BMC Series of journals in the early days of the open access movement. He was training for 11 years at Johns Hopkins University School of Public Health and Division of Cancer Prevention and Control, NCI\/NIH, USA. He is an author on over 480 peer reviewed publications in both English and Chinese. He has involved in many national and international projects to study etiology, primary intervention, and early detection of a variety of cancers through multidisciplinary and global collaborations. He received 2011 WHO\/IARC Medal of Honor.\u00a0<\/p>\n Xiaolin Zhang, PhD<\/p><\/div><\/p>\n Xiaolin Zhang, PhD - National Science Library, Chinese Academy of Sciences<\/strong><\/p>\n Dr. Xiaolin Zhang was the Director of the National Science Library (NSL), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), from 2004-2015. With Bachelor of Science in Physics, he graduated from Columbian University in USA in 1992 with a Doctor of Library Science degree. He came to CAS in 2001 and has been working in digital libraries, knowledge organization and services, scholarly communications, research informatics, and science policies. He was a member of IFLA Governing Board and Professional Committee from 2005-2009, and currently a Vice President of Chinese Society of Library Science.<\/p>\n Dr. Zhang has been active in promoting open access. He played an active role in formulating and implementing the open access policies of NSFC and CAS, and led the development of the CAS IR Grid, Chinese participation in SCOAP3, and CAS funding of open access publishing of CAS authors. He is also heavily involved with scientific journal publishing.
