Reasons to publish

Open access

Research articles published in BioMed Central’s journals are freely available online to the entire global
research community. They are available via BioMed Central’s website, the National Institute of Health’s
electronic depository of full text articles, PubMed Central, as well as in many other major
international archives. In many of our journals, most of the non-research content is also open access.

Rapid publication

Online submission, electronic peer review and production make the process of publishing your article
simple and efficient.

Quality, reputation and high standard of peer review

All BioMed Central journals have a high standard of peer review. The precise form of peer review is left
to those responsible for editorial control of the individual journal. Each journal has its own peer review
policy.

All BioMed Central journals boast strong Editorial Boards who help with policy and decision-making,
and in some cases help with choosing referees and reviewing manuscripts.

Impact Factors and Thomson Reuters (ISI) citation tracking

Over 150 BioMed Central journals have Impact Factors and many more have been accepted by
Thomson Reuters (ISI) for citation tracking and inclusion in Web of Science and should receive an
Impact Factor in the next two years. Individual journal Impact Factors can be found in our general FAQ
or by visiting the individual journal homepage.

High visibility and international readership in your field

Our open access policy ensures high visibility and maximum exposure for your work – anyone with
online access can read your article.

All articles published in BioMed Central journals are included in many bibliographic databases so that
your work can be found easily and cited by researchers and clinicians around the world.

This means that articles can be freely redistributed and reused as long as the article is correctly
attributed. For example, a published article can be posted on a personal or institutional homepage,
emailed to friends and colleagues, printed and sent to people, archived in a collection, included in
course-packs, quoted in the press, translated and further distributed as often and widely as possible.

No space constraints

Publishing online means unlimited space for figures, extensive data and video footage.

Articles are widely promoted through email updates, table of contents, email alerts, postings on the
BioMed Central homepage, and press releases to the general and scientific press – all resulting in
increasing levels of accesses for each article. BioMed Central journals are also promoted at many
major scientific conferences to bring your work to the attention of professionals in your field. You can
